The election season is going on and 2019 election is also around the corner. In that case the opposition is very cautious that not even a single issue should be left that can be used against government. Demonetization is one such issue, heavily roasted by opposition.
Actually, two years of demonetization has been completed on Thursday. Two years back the government had invalidated the notes of 500 and 1000 one the very same day. Since then the opposition is the attacker on this move of the government. Although the government takes Demonetization as their biggest achievement, but the opposition has been presenting it often in the form of a financial disaster.
On Thursday, the opposition has targeted the move of demonetization decision which was made two years back. On this occasion, the opposition has demanded apology following the government. Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has targeted the BJP government. He has declared demonetization as a wretched step of a “sick-thought”.
At the same time, the Congress chief and Bengal Chief Minister Mamta Banarjee have termed it as “Black Day”. Mamta Banarjee has criticized the ban on very stringent words. Shashi Tharoor tweeted this day as a disaster. Also tweeting with the name of #DemonetizationDisasterDay, also said that “Due to the note-offs, a new note was printed for 8 thousand crores rupees, 15 lakh jobs were added. 100 people lost their life and one-and-a- half percent decline in GDP was recorded.
This is to tell you that about two months ago, the Reserve Bank had said that all the notes that were not allowed at the time of demonetization have returned now. RBI has disclosed in its Annual General Report that the notes of 500 and 1000 rupees have been returned by 99.30 percent. The full accounting of the RBI’s Annual report has been stated. RBI says that the processing of ‘Specified Bank Notes” has been completed in all the centers of RBI. Only 15,310.73 billion have come back from circulation.
